Hi, my name is Judi Rykert and I live in Holiday, Florida. I had seen your story on the news and I have been wanting to get in touch with you. When I was 19 years old back in 1973 a seat belt saved my life. My future finance and I hit a telephone pole and back than they only had waist restraints. Harold didn’t make it he had hit his head on a mailbox. I made but had serious injuries. For years now I have been trying by writing, calling, etc. to making teenagers more aware of how important it is to wear your seat belt it can save your life! My major concern is that our society does not enforce people to buckle up. I have wanted for a long time now to have a law in place for all motion pictures, television shows, commercials, music videos, etc. to show all passengers wearing their seat belts. I saw a movie with Julie Roberts in it and in the beginning movie, she is in a head on collision and dies, and she wasn’t wearing her seat belt. We are not sending out the right messages to anyone especially new drivers. Another thing how come the seat belt has not improved in years, the car manufacturers are surrounding us with air bags and in crash dummy tests the dummies are still moving. They need to make a 2 point harness. Another thing why should any passenger be responsible for someone else’s injuries if they neglected to wear their seat belt. Please help me perhaps get a petitioned to have the Motion Picture and Television Industries to have all passengers in vehicles shown wearing their seat belts.
Thank you for reading and hopefully if we had this law it would make more new drivers aware of how important it is to wear your seat belt.
Thank you.
